New album by former Prince companion (The New Power Generation) and Soul Train Music Award winner Liv Warfield. On her third album "The Edge", the artist, together with Bobby Sparks (keys), Mark Lettieri (guitar) and Jay McK (bass), convinces with a diverse mixture of funk and rock with various influences from AOR to Afrobeat.
Growing up in Peoria, Illinois, Liv Warfield came into contact with gospel music at an early age as the daughter of a deacon under a strict religious upbringing and it still influences her today. After dropping out of college on scholarship at Portland State University, Warfield, who was considered a track star in Peoria, decided to focus on music full time. After her debut album in 2006, it was a YouTube video of her rendition of the Rolling Stones classic "Gimme Shelter" that caught the attention of Prince and earned her an audition with him in Paisley Park, Minnesota. In 2010, she eventually became a member of Prince"s New Power Generation and actively contributed to the albums "Lotusflow3r", "20TEN" and the posthumous "Welcome 2 America", released after Prince"s death. In 2014, Warfield"s second album "The Unexpected" was released, which was produced by Prince and featured the singles "Why Do You Lie" and the title song written by Prince. Her appearances on the late-night TV shows "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in particular achieved a great deal of attention. In 2017, together with guitarist and singer Nancy Wilson (Heart), she founded the formation Roadcase Royale, whose album played a major role in the Women"s March on Washington. After five years, Liv Warfield now presents her third album "The Edge" and shows her experience of the last years from the collaboration with various exceptional artists as well as the musical maturity gained from it through a well thought-out and at the same time broadly diversified musical spectrum of powerful rock, catchy funk and deep soul.
